Associate Spotlight – Miguel Valerio
Learn more about Miguel Valerio, PDI Warehouse Supervisor and his experiences working as part of the PDI Operations team.
Q. Can you tell us a little about your role at PDI?
Valerio: I am the Warehouse supervisor in the Raw Material Warehouse. I oversee the flow of raw materials to the production floor. I am also responsible for the accurate loading of finished products to the Distribution Warehouse, as well as other warehouse responsibilities, such as handling the receiving, and shipment, of chemicals.
Q. What new skills have you learned while working at PDI? How have you developed personally and professionally?
Valerio: When I started working at PDI, I was a young man with basic knowledge of office responsibilities. Through the mentoring of my supervisors, I learned what it is like to lead a team, and how to get the best out of everyone, while maintaining a positive and productive environment. PDI has helped me grow in to a responsible individual, both inside and outside of the organization. When I started working here, I lived with my mom and now I have 2 little boys who I have to set a good example for.
Q. How long have you been with PDI and why have you decided to stay with the company?
Valerio: I have been with PDI for 12 years. I have been here for so long because I was given the opportunity to learn and develop. Even in tough times my superiors stepped in and gave me the stability and confidence that I needed to understand that there will be a better tomorrow. I also value the core message of our company – “Saving Lives and Being the Difference”
Q. What impact do you feel your function has had on the industry, particularly during COVID?
Valerio: 2020 was the most challenging year we have had so far, professionally and personally. We continued to work in the building all through the year, with enhanced safety measures to ensure associates were protected. And although sometimes our staff was not complete 100% of the time, we continued to support manufacturing 24/7 for most of the year, understanding that what we were doing could actually combat the COVID-19 virus. That fact added to our motivation – we know we have products that can actually help protect others and help prevent the virus from spreading.
Q. What is your favorite memory from working at PDI?
Valerio: I believe my favorite memory would have to be the relationships and lessons I ‘ve learned through my years here. I work with a group of highly motivated team members who have a great attitude and strive to ‘Be The Difference.’ While at PDI, I matured – I believed I was always a leader, but my superiors molded me to be an even better, stronger leader. I’ve learned that with hard work, and understanding, growth can happen here because your efforts are valued.
Q. Do you have any interesting hobbies or fun facts you could share?
Valerio: When I am not working, I enjoy cycling and spending time with my kids. Both are really good for me.
Q. How has the company evolved since you joined?
Valerio: The company has evolved from when I started. Physically, we expanded our locations, opening up a new Corporate Office in NJ, and a Distribution Center in West Nyack. And, within my division, we continue to optimize operations needs, including implementing scanning in our warehouses for finished product transfer and installing high-speed machines and auto palletizers in production. I look forward to seeing continual growth at PDI!
